RTT: Craigslist, The South, and four day weeks

Filed under: General — by Sandie @ 5:15 am

I think I’m in love with Craigslist. I’ve found it’s a great way to get rid of stuff. OK, so I’ve only listed two things for sale, but both things have gone within a day of me posting the ad. Late Saturday night, I posted our treadmill. By 3 pm on Sunday it was gone and we were $280 richer.

One thing I’m going to miss about The South is how open people are with their faith. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen anywhere else I’ve lived. On Saturday morning, we had a guy come in and clean our tile floors (took him 30 minutes and would have taken HOURS for me…well worth the $90!). After he was done he told us that he uses his business as a ministry as well. I kept waiting for him to invite us to a church or get all preachy with us, but he didn’t. Instead, he asked us how he could pray for us. And then we stood there, in the back yard, holding hands, while he prayed. I’ve lived here 8 years and things like that still catch me off guard. I was very touched that this man, who didn’t know us from Adam, was willing to pray for us.

I just realized that I capitalized “south” in my last paragraph without even thinking about it. I think that means I’m officially a “naturalized” Southerner. It also reminds me of the “schooling” I got from an ex-boyfriend about The South. He was a born and bred Georgian and one of the most important things he taught me was that Texas and Florida are not in The South. Well, according to him that was the most important thing he taught me.

Angelina is learning the days of the week at daycare. The other day at dinner, she decided to sing the days of the week song to us. It went something like this: “First you have Sunday and then Monday and then Friday and then Saturday.” Hmmm…I really like her week! Well, except for that Monday thing. Maybe we can work on that.

A house in my neighborhood that has been on the market since August went under contract this weekend. Tony and I drove around the neighborhood last night and only two of the seven houses in my neighborhood are not under contract. I’m hoping this trend continues. Although I find myself hoping my house doesn’t sell too quickly! We have realtors coming to look at the house later today and hopefully will have it on the market within the next couple weeks!

I think I have the best husband in the world. Why you may ask? Well, for starters, everything I listed here. And the icing on the cake: he does floors. Sunday he scrubbed our entire living room and hallway. Last night, he scrubbed the kitchen floor. I’m talking hands and knees, crawling on the floor scrubbing. If that doesn’t qualify for husband of the year, I don’t know what does!

Is it Tuesday already?

Filed under: General — by Sandie @ 7:55 am

Wow! Time sure flies when you’re having fun! I’ve been on vacation since Thursday. It’ll be over by next Thursday. Maybe we can rewind time a little bit…I’m not ready for it to be Tuesday yet!!!!!

I’m getting tired of hearing about the Obama’s dog. Do people really consider this newsworthy? Are there people out there as obsessed as the news seems to be? Or maybe I’m just watching the wrong news programs?

With all the crap that’s been going on with us, we forgot to call Disney to make our dining reservations. We called last night and tried to make them. We only wanted two dining experiences: Cinderella’s Royal Roundtable and Chef Mickey’s. The Royal Roundtable is book EVERY day of our trip. And they had ONE reservation available at Chef Mickey’s…at 7:30 in the morning. Tony’s going to try to call back every day to see if we can still sneak in if somebody cancels.

The weather has been great in Texas. I’ve been wearing shorts all week. I’m not looking forward to going home where it’s been in the 50s & 60s and raining all week. Ugh!

Alyssa and I flew out here lst Thursday. There was bad weather in Atlanta AND Dallas (our connecting city). When we first arrived to the airport, our flight was just delayed. After about 30 minutes, they cancelled. If it wasn’t for the guy sitting near me getting a text telling him it was cancelled I never would have known! I called the airline and they re-booked me on another airline…of course it was out of another terminal and we had less than 30 minutes to get there! As we were gathering our things to get to our flight, they FINALLY announced that our flight was cancelled. I was glad I overheard that guy talking! Alyssa and I ended up making it to Laredo close to our original time. My friend wasn’t so lucky. She didn’t get in until almost midnight!

Tony asked the girls if they would want to do a year of school in Italy. Amazingly, Ashley is thinking about it. I don’t think it’ll happen…I’m sure her mom will either pitch a fit or find some way to talk her out of it. The fact that Ashley is even thinking about is shocking to me though. She’s even been telling her friends about it.

Tony’s aunt has a mean cat. Really mean. He hisses at anything and everthing that gets near it. If you get too close, he has no problems taking a swipe at you. My kids can’t leave him alone! I keep telling his aunt to just let them get scratched and they’ll figure out to leave the cat alone, but she keeps rescuing them.

Well, that’s all the randomness I have this week! Want more? Go visit Keely over at The Unmom, grab the button, and join in the fun!

Random Tuesday

Filed under: General — by Sandie @ 7:01 pm

The other day Angelina came running into my room, looked me straight in the eye, and said, “Mom, I need a book light!” What the heck is she watching???

Debbie has me hooked on Sorority Life. I need to grow my house. I only have 8 members. I need more, but I hate asking people I don’t know to be in my house. What if they reject me? I can’t take that kind of pressure!

The good side of Facebook: I’ve been able to connect with people I haven’t seen or heard from in years. The bad side of Facebook: some people I’d rather NOT connect with have found me. I was “conversing” with one such person the other day. He and I had a mutual friend (well, he had a huge crush on her and she was a very good friend of mine…she’s the one who taught me to drive a stick shift!). He told me she’d written him a letter a few years ago and told him some stuff that helped some things make sense for him. Like he always wondered why she’d never go out with him and this new revelation made him think THAT was why. I let him go on thinking that even though I know the real reason is that she thought he was creepy, but was too nice to hurt his feelings and tell him that.

Sometimes my boss’s boss’s boss can be a real tool. Every since I got my assignment, he’s been making jokes about it. This morning, as I was walking down the hall he said, “You’re still here?” Other mornings he’s come in to give me Italian “lessons.” I’m glad he finds it humorous because I don’t find one stinkin’ thing funny about it right now. I guess somebody should get some enjoyment out of it!

And speaking of that…thanks to all who have provided supportive comments. Still no answers as of this afternoon when I left for the day. I hate waiting.

RTT, HASAY, Spin Cycle: Three for the price of one!

I’ve been neglecting my blog the last couple of weeks. Between the constant fretting and worrying over my assignment situation and the time change, I’ve either been too stressed or too tired to put coherent thoughts together. So, I’ve decided to string my three regular meme-type posts into one. So today you get my HASAY update, my Spin Cycle post and Random Tuesday Thoughts (OK, I know it’s Thursday, but work with me here! With the time change this week it FEELS like Tuesday!).

HASAY Update (brought to you by Casey at Ugh! The last thing I’ve thought about the last couple weeks has been HASAY. Or losing weight. The good thing: I’m normally a stress eater, however the stress of the last week or so has caused me to NOT want to eat. I actually went to the kitchen over the weekend, with the SOLE purpose of finding something chocolaty and/or sweet to satisfy my depression. I opened the refrigerator and then closed it. I opened the pantry and then closed it. Fridge again. Nothing. Didn’t feel like eating a thing from there, so I retreated quickly from the kitchen. Unfortunately, I’ve made up for it over the last couple days. So, I’m about even from last week’s weight and still down a pound over all. And I made it to Ab Lab twice this week AND walked a mile and a half yesterday. Yay me!

Spin Cycle (brought to you by This week’s Spin Cycle is about survival. I have to admit, when I first read the topic I thought about Survivor the TV show (which happens to be on my TV as I type…how coincidental!). That’s not what I want to spin about though. What do I want to spin about? Hmmm….good question. You hear about all these great survival stories on TV: women who’ve survived breast cancer, children who’ve survived some insurmountable challenge, survivors of plane crashes, natural disasters, or some other tragedy. Thankfully, I’ve never had to deal with any of that. But when I think about survivors or surviving THOSE are the people I think of. Quite frankly, I’m in awe of them. I look at some of the things they’ve survived or lived through and wonder could I do the same? Would I be as strong? Would I hold out hope and make it to the other side? I guess that’s one of those questions you never know the answer to until you’re faced with it. And, well, I hope I never have to find out.

Still no word on my assignment issues (brief recap for those too lazy to click on the link above: I received an assignment to Italy, Tony did not. Trying right now to either get an assignment for him or cancel mine). I know things are being looked at/worked now, but I also know that we could be right back where we started when all is said done. Strangely, I’ve been calm the last couple days. I don’t know if I finally just ran out of worry/stress or if God has laid a calming hand on me, but I haven’t felt that panic that had overcome me last week. I know everything will work out in the end, though it may not be the way I want it to.

I was driving down the road behind a Volkswagon Beetle today and have decided that there must be some sort of law that all VW Beetle’s in the state of Georgia MUST have the same tag. It seems every Beetle I’ve ever seen has this tag:

I hate the weather this time of year. The weather is so crazy right now, you can’t help but get sick (and something has been going around my office…I hope it stays far away from me!). How crazy you might ask? Well, it SNOWED on 1 March. Just one week later it was in the 80s! Even the weather man is having a hard time…they predicted a high of 70 today. I guess somebody forgot to tell Mother Nature that because the temperature thingy inside my van proclaimed it to be 84!

With that, I’ve completed my Tuesday, er, Thursday Random Thoughts (brought to you by!

Random Thoughts

To answer the big question from yesterday: YES we will still be able to take our Disney trip (thank goodness!). We’re hoping this will push Ashley to decide to come with us, even if it’s just for the week we’re going. It’ll be our last big “hooray” before we leave the country. And as my friend pointed out: we’ll be able to visit EuroDisney now.

I’m trying to get to a good spot in regards to this move to Italy. So far, I’m still in the freaked out stage and can’t get past why it’s a bad thing. I keep telling myself all the good things about it…what a wonderful experience this will be for the kids (and us!). It just throws a HUGE monkey wrench into some of my other plans (guess that’s what I get for trying to plan!). However, I know I’ll have plenty of blog fodder once we get over there!

Last weekend was weird weather-wise. Saturday we had severe thunderstorms, tornado warnings, and a whole bunch of rain dumped on us. Sunday it snowed. Yes, you read that right…it SNOWED in Georgia! Not once, but TWICE! The kids got to play in it for a little bit and it all melted by the time we went to bed. I got to go in two hours late because of it though (school, however, started right on time!). Seems fitting that it snowed the first year we lived here and now it snowed the last year we lived here.

I’m perplexed that the school systems down here seem to have not heard of “delay start.” Schools all around us closed on Monday because of the snow. Well, not really because of the snow, but because they were worried about the ice that may form on the roads overnight. In all the discussions about whether or not our county schools should remain open, nobody thought of delaying the start of the day. It was either the schools will be closed or they will be open. I don’t get it (and yesterday would have been the perfect day to delay the start of school, even by an hour!).

I don’t have much randomness in me today. I’m overwhelmed thinking of all the things we have to get done in the next few months. The time is going to fly by! Yikes!

Random Tuesday Thoughts by Sandie

Does anyone remember Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey? I don’t know why, but I thought of that old SNL skit today. For no reason whatsoever. I didn’t even remember a Deep Thought to go with it.

Tony and I have decided to renew our vows this summer. We’ll be celebrating our 10th anniversary. I didn’t get a “real” wedding when we got married, so I’m really starting to look forward to this! We’re keeping it very low key to save money, but the best part is my parents will get to be there (my mom is still a little miffed that we eloped).

As of Sunday, Ashley had decided not to come visit us this summer. She wants to go to summer school this summer to get some extra credits. I’m hoping she’ll change her mind before the summer, but it’s probably a long shot.

Angelina has started using the phrase, “What the…?!?!” I have no idea where she learned it, but it’s hilarious when she decides to use it. The other day, Tony and I were in the bathroom. I’d just gotten out of the shower and he was getting ready to go in, so we were both in our birthday suits. He grabbed me to give me a hug right as Angelina walked in. She took one look at us and said, “What the?!?! You’re naked!” It was much funnier when you were there.

Girl Scout cookies are the devil. I told Tony to rip them out of my hands if he sees me eating any more. I think he’s relishing this task a little too much.

I love most of CBS’s Monday night sitcom lineup. I’m ticked that How I Met Your Mother wasn’t on tonight. Why does the president have to speak in primetime and interrupt my TV watching? At least they put Big Bang Theory on at 9:30 (and I’m so glad Worst Week wasn’t on…I can’t stand that show!).

These random thoughts were brought to you by Keely of The Un Mom. Want more? Go here.
