Define “relax”

Filed under: Spin — by Sandie @ 9:22 pm

I find it funny that my first spin cycle post is about relaxing (brought to you by I almost had to go look the word up in the dictionary to remember the definition! You see, I don’t think I’ve truly relaxed since December 1, 2006, otherwise known as the day my youngest was born. It’s also the day I entered into the world of three fulltime children. With two we could tag team…Tony gets one kid, I get one kid. With three, all hell breaks loose. We can’t tag team anymore and end up arguing over who’s “turn” it is to take care of the “odd” kid (meanwhile, the other two are being neglected so nothing is getting done!). And we won’t even talk about the never-ending pile of laundry and dirty dishes. Seriously, we do laundry and two seconds later there is another pile waiting to be washed, dried, and folded. The dishwasher is filled just as quickly as it’s emptied. Oh and did I mention I work two jobs??
Despite all that I suppose I’ve managed to find a relaxing moment or two. I can easily get in 10 minutes worth of a shower before someone is pounding at my door screaming, “Mom! Mom! Mom! Mom! Mom!” And then there is that brief period between the kids’ bedtime and mine when I veg out in front of the boob tube. Though I don’t know if you can really call that relaxing because I’m sitting there thinking of all the things I’m neglecting, but am just too exhausted to get off the couch to do them. Every once in awhile I get lucky and the Air Force will send me on a short trip and I’ll get a blissful week to myself. No one to take care of but me and I can actually sit and read a book! That’s about the only time I get to read a book anymore!
Alas, at the end of the day I know this time is short-lived. It won’t be long before my kids will grow up and I’ll suddenly be left with nothing but time to relax while I wistfully dream of days gone by and wonder how my kids grew up so quickly. So, for now I’ll steal my few moments of relaxation when I can because there will be plenty of time for relaxing later.

  1. 2 jobs? Sounds more like 20 to me! How do you do it?
Relaxation must be key to keeping your sanity, right? A couple of minutes to yourself, finding your Zen, taking the aspirin, before you leap back into the fray. Wow, I admire you!
Thanks for joining the Spin Cycle! You’re linked!

  2. You have to rotate who gets the “odd” kid. Seriously. And son’t let the poor kid hear you calling her “odd”!

  5. Isn’t it terrible how when you finally get the chance to relax, you can’t because your mind is racing? Welcome to the Spin Cycle!
